On hand to direct and guide will be head coach Kevin Stallings, director of basketball operations Brad Frederick, assistant coach Dan Muller, assistant coach King Rice and assistant coach Tom Richardson. Stallings began his 10th season this year with the Commodores. Under his guidance in the classroom and on the floor, every single Vanderbilt Commodores senior has graduated with a degree. Stallings' accomplishments are noteworthy, no matter which angle you view them. With 293 career wins, a clear 300 is in view. Dan Langhi (1999-2000), Derrick Byars (2006-2007) and Shan Foster (2007-2008) all SEC Players of the Year were coached by Stallings.
Stallings brings 30 years of coaching and playing experience from playing at Purdue, assisting at Kansas and Purdue and coaching as head coach at Illinois State. Stallings has brought the Commodores to the NCAA tournaments for two seasons in a row in 2007 and 2008. One has to expect nothing less than the best now and in the future.
Spectators and fans can watch Stallings in action during the rest of the games for the 2008-2009 season where the Commodores will take to the floor in competitions against Tennessee on February 14, Kentucky on February 17, Florida on February 21, Georgia on February 25, South Carolina on February 28, LSU on March 4 and Arkansas on March 8. March 12 through March 15 marks the start and conclusion of the Sec Tournament rounds. March 19 through March 22 will be the NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds. Semis and Finals for the NCAA Tournament will be held March 26 through March 29 and the NCAA Final Four will be held in Detroit on April 4 through April 6.
One change sure to be noticed is the departure of Guard Jamie Graham from the Vanderbilt Commodores men's basketball team. "We agree with and totally support this decision," Stallings said of Graham's choice to discontinue playing basketball so that he can commit fully to his football interests. Graham was a walk-on in 2007 and is the first player who tackled both sports successfully in the SEC except for Fred Baker (1994-1995).
Still with the team is Foster, who recently received a major away from the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, is the only Vanderbilt Commodore to earn 2,011 career points, earning him the title of Southeastern Conference's Player of the Year.
